Walmart and Burger King announced last week a new partnership to offer Walmart+ members a daily discount on digital Burger King orders, effective immediately, the companies said in a statement.
The dining benefit includes 25% off digital orders daily and, starting in September, a free Whopper every three months with any purchase. To activate the deal, Walmart+ members must link their membership with Burger King’s free Royal Perks loyalty program. Once the accounts are linked, Walmart+ members can get the deal through Burger King’s app or website.
The benefit, which comes at no extra cost to the member, is Walmart’s way of adding value to the membership, according to Walmart+ Senior Vice President and General Manager Venessa Yates. According to statistics from Enterprise Apps Today’s Fast Food Industry Statistics 2024, Walmart said most Americans eat from quick service restaurants several times a week. The retailer said the new Burger King benefits are designed to appeal to busy people who can’t or don’t feel like grocery shopping and cooking.
“We consistently strive to offer benefits that focus on our members, aligning with our commitment to deliver undeniable value and convenience,” Yates said. “We're confident our members will welcome the additional savings, and we're thrilled to collaborate with a trusted brand like Burger King to offer this benefit.”
Walmart+ launched in 2020. The program’s memberships rose double digits in the second quarter, the company said last week. The membership costs $98 annually. Additional membership benefits include free same-day grocery delivery on orders over $35, free no-minimum shipping, fuel discounts and streaming with Paramount+. Walmart’s global revenue rose 4.8% year over year to $169.3 billion in Q2.
Walmart and Burger King’s partnership comes not long after Amazon and Grubhub announced an expanded alliance. In May, Amazon said Prime members began receiving an ongoing annual Grubhub+ membership, valued at $120. The retailer and food delivery company first began a relationship in 2022, which offered a one-year free trial of Grubhub+. Prime currently costs $139 a year.
